On the occasion of International Black Sea Day on October 31, the Izgrev 1909 Community Centre in Burgas held the ninth edition of the "The Sea and Children" project, aimed at promoting children's awareness and active participation in the protection of the marine and coastal environment. The project is carried out in partnership with regional libraries in the country and connects students from different cities through the creation and exchange of creative messages inspired by the Black Sea.
During October, students from St. Kliment Ohridski Primary School in Burgas participated in painting workshops and creative workshops for making posters and cards dedicated to the sea. Some of them were sent as "Postcards from the Sea" to their peers at Vazrazhdane Secondary School in Ruse, building a symbolic connection from the sea to the Danube River.
On October 30, the final event and opening of the exhibition "My Black Sea" took place at the "Chengene Skele" Cultural and Tourist Complex. Diana Pavlova from the BLUE CONNECT project team was invited as an official guest and opened the exhibition.
In her welcome speech, she emphasised the role of children as drivers of change and guardians of the future of the Black Sea: "You, the children, are our blue connections to the future of the Black Sea. Caring for the sea begins with curiosity and love for it — as you show in your drawings and exhibitions — and continues with the knowledge and actions we share."
After the opening, the children and guests had the opportunity to view the museum exhibits at "Chengene Skele" and play in the educational playground dedicated to the Black Sea and its inhabitants. The scientific content of the playground was developed by a team from the Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation in 2024.
