Description: 1/3 of humanity's food supply depends entirely on pollinators. But nearly 1/3 of Europe's bee and butterfly populations are in decline. The reasons are complex, but among the most serious are intensive agriculture, the use of pesticides, environmental pollution, the destruction of forests, meadows and other natural habitats of pollinators, the introduction of invasive and alien plant species, the spread of pathogens, as well as climate change .
Judicious management of green spaces can compensate for this to some extent. An easy way for people to feel they can contribute to pollinator conservation is to plant suitable honey plants in urban environments. By dropping the "flower bomb" they transform the urban landscape and provide pollinators with food and a place to rest.
The "flower bomb" can become a beautiful symbol of civic activism and a demonstation that every small action matters.
Funding: The project is implemented with the financial support of the "Fantastic to you" program
Duration: 06.2024 - 06.2025
Project goal: The project aims to develop a new product with a cause - "Flower Bombs". These are balls of soil, clay and honeydew flower seeds in a box with information about pollinators and instructions on how to throw the "bombs". The "flower bombs" will be made in partnership with social enterprises as a labor practice, and this brings added value to the product, which will become an ambassador not only for the cause of protected nature and living cities, but also for social inclusion and equal access to labor.
Project activities:
- Research and selection of seeds for honey plants
- Testing the optimal ratio between products for each "color bomb"
- Work practice on making color bombs
