The overall purpose of EuroBird project is to encourage birdwatching as a tool for nature conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity hotspots within the NATURA 2000 network.
The birdwatching tourism is an entertainment activity, during which the tourists travel to biodiversity rich destinations in order to explore and observe bird species in their natural environment.
The birdwatching tourism gains more and more popularity among different European regions as it provides new job opportunities for the local communities.
This tendency has the potential to be used in countries as Bulgaria, where the birdwatching tourism is still innovative and sustainable business opportunities.
The Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation is part of the Eurobird project, under the Erasmus+ programme, together with partners from Spain, Check Republic and Portugal. The project team develops new educational methods that enable learners to gain knowledge on how to create attractive birdwatching experiences.
At the present moment there is not a certification process for qualified birdwatching guides in Europe.
