Every year during the month of November the world celebrates the day of the Geographic information systems. The event supports the popularization of the geospatial technologies and provides a possibility for experience exchange and sharing of development achievements in the field of GIS.
The official opening of this year’s celebration of the GIS day in Bulgaria will be at the 19th of November in hotel Sheraton, Sofia at 10.00 o’clock. The official organizer of the event is “ESRI Bulgaria” in partnership with Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, National Society of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria, Foundation for Local Government Reform, Bulgarian Green Building Council, Union of the Architects in Bulgaria, Bulgarian Water Association, Bulgarian Association of Software Companies, Bulgarian Academy of Science, University of Architecture, Civic Engineering and Geodesy, Bulgarian Cartography Association, Green Blakans, Union of the Scientists in Bulgaria. “Construction City” is the media partner of the event.
The program of the event includes presentations of what is new in the field of GIS, current GIS projects and presentation of contemporary academic GIS researches. Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation will take part in the event with presentation of the GIS project, funded by the NGO Program in Bulgaria, under the Financial Mechanism of the EEA 2009-2014.
The presentation of the project will include the goals and the project activities as well as the project progress especially in relation to the development of the innovative web-based GIS platform, which will provide services for use of the BBF spatial data. The popularization of the web-based platform designed for utilization by the wide public aims at provision of incentive and a model for a means for fast and easy sharing of spatial data which can be applied also by other NGOs and institutions. This will contribute for the facilitation of the information exchange, knowledge and good practices among NGOs, institutions and the wide public.
