New velo routes in Osogovo - detailed description and GPS tracks

Osogovo Mountain is situated in the heart of the Balkan Peninsula, divided between Bulgaria and Macedonia. It is the fifth highest mountain in Bulgaria, with the highest peak Ruen - 2251 meters above sea level. It attracts with its sacrament the existing bans to the border area until recently. There still can be found signs and memories of the so- A "Iron Curtain" that once divided Europe. These territories are now part of the European Green Belt.

It is because of the difficult access to the mountain, which is extremely well preserved. There you can see animals and plants that are not found anywhere else in Bulgaria. Legends, shadows, spas, deep river valleys, centuries-old forests, breathtaking panoramic views, a wildlife sensation - all this will offer Osogovo and its surroundings to make you want to go back and forth.

To get to know them better, we offer you three biking routes of varying complexity that will reveal some of this mountain treasure. The routes are described (including GPS trails) within the project "Sustainable future for people and nature in Osogovo", which is implemented by the EuroNatur Foundation, the Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation and the Macedonian Ecological Society, with the financial support of the German Federal Foundation for the Environment DBU and Frankfurt Zoo Society FZS.
